Established in March 2015 by Amanda Wright, Right Opportunities is a nonprofit organisation that provides work related learning opportunities for young people and the wider community; By working with employers, schools and other educational organisations through project work, placements or provision.

Our aim is to support individuals and groups to gain the relevant experience and to give an insight in the world of work and to help develop employability skills that will help plan for a future either in further education, training or employment.

Amanda comes from a teaching background and has taught at several Secondary schools in Oldham, Manchester and Sweden for some years. Her main subject area was Food Technology but she has also taught - Textiles, Home Economics, Art, KS3 English and Mathematics.

Prior to teaching Amanda also worked in the Art and Textile Industry as a freelance designer and Retail manager. All this valuable experience gives Right Opportunities the tools to provide a platform for practical learning and personal development.

What We Do

 

Right Opportunities can demonstrate how developing and accrediting work-related learning and employability skills across the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13 increases students confidence which enhances their learning and supports high achievement. Allowing students to understand the relevance of their school subjects to working life. Inspiring them to succeed at school to gain employability skills and achieve their future goals.

The Curriculum  

Enterprise and employability skills a foundation of learning can be used through accreditation to give every student a sense of achievement at an early stage. Every curriculum subject can be linked to practical everyday and work-related skills and settings. As a result, all students, including those in the sixth form, increase their knowledge, skills and confidence in enterprise to gain a qualification, at an appropriate level, to prove it to themselves and to future employers.

Right Opportunities can offer advice, support and guidance to map out the work-related provision in all areas including pastoral, vocational and subject areas. Creating a strong strategic overview with respect to the curriculum, staffing, budget and outcomes. We have already worked with the following establishments:

Over the past 2 years I have worked with two special schools in the Manchester area not only provided them with WRL projects but bespoke work experiences for individual students in the following sectors and industries:

Good Practice in detail.

Each school should see work-related learning and the development of employability skills as entitlements for all students. Ensuring that all staff are involved, so that every curriculum area provides opportunities for students to develop related skills, and demonstrates and celebrates achievement. This can be supplemented by a programme of assemblies, tutor periods and extra-curricular activities, underpinning an overarching work-related learning policy, important elements of which are indicated below:

The Lowry worked with Right Opportunities to support a young SEN man on placement with us through our Youth. Employment. Skills programme. Amanda was fantastic to work alongside; proactive and supportive to both Tyrone and us, ensuring that his placement ran smoothly and was a positive experience for all involved.
